This is a tale of a serious case of insomnia, a dreadful realization, a sore rump, a race against time, a milkshake mistake, and cap it off with a poorly placed vase {or was it the camera that was poorly placed?}
I could NOT sleep last night. As I struggled against my insomnia, I suddenly had a light bulb surge above my head {you know, those cartoons ones that appear when the character gets an idea or has a major breakthrough or, as in my case, finally connects the dots.} The thing that drove me crazy at that point, was the knowledge that there was nothing I could do to solve my dilemma until the next day. At least I managed to get some sleep- it could've been worse.
The next day {today} didn't appear for me until 10am, due to the previous night's sleep-deprivation. Now, the thing I had realized the night before was this: I had double booked my Sunday {triple, if you count church that I'll have to miss.} I had committed to and talked about both events for days, and for some reason, failed to connect that they were supposed to happen simultaneously. I had planned to take pictures of my friend's family, and I was supposed to help Travis by taking Santa pics of kids at a charity event he was participating in. And, by the way, the photoshoot with my friend was no ordinary photoshoot. It was a concept shoot that took a lot of planning, prepping, shopping, and waiting... for just the right time... which was supposed to be Sunday afternoon. This might not seem like that big of a deal, but with my days general packed from sun-up to sun-down, a hiccup in the plans can cause some serious stress. Plus, I'm sparing you some of the details that helped create the tangled web I was trying to wiggle my way out of.
So, it wasn't until 10am that I was able to call my friend and start the process of trying to figure out what to do.
Now, I'm making this story much longer than it needs to be, so I'll jump ahead and say that it took a lot of phone calls and texts, resulting in a lot of rearranging and running around like mad, but we finally made all made it to the rescheduled photoshoot today at 2pm. So, you see, everything eventually fell into place- it could've been worse.
The concept included two horses, one of which was not acting like himself in the least bit. He's usually the most calm, well-behaved horse on the farm, but today was not a good day for him, either. He bucked and shimmied around until it was determined that he needed to be lead away. This is when I made my mistake. I really haven't been around horses much in my life, but I do know you're not supposed to stand directly behind one {at least that's what I remember being told- seems like sound advice to me.} My focus was more on the photoshoot, however, so I really wasn't paying attention as he was lead off, and I took a side step that put my right in the danger zone. I didn't realize what I'd done until I received a swift kick in the pants, so to speak. Well, actually, quite literally. Luckily, it was a glancing blow {or else I would have likely been on the ground whimpering}, but it still gave me quite a jolt. Despite the soreness & newly colored hip, it could've been worse.
At the conclusion of the shoot {the rest went great, in case you were wondering} I immediately had to rush off to Salem to help out at the Nativity Festival {which I was now late for}. Afterwards, I sent a quick text message off to my friend. Once I let her know I was on my way over to pick up Eli, I proceeded to dump my cell phone right into my drink sitting in the cup holder. It only had about 1/4" of shake still in it, but it was enough to incapacitate the speaker in my phone. All the other functions still work at the moment, so it could've been worse. It now resides in a bowl of rice, and I am hoping that tomorrow morning will produce a moisture-free, fully functional phone.
**Insert here another unhappy moment of the day that I am going to choose not to include in this pubic blog. Let's just say- even though it was a real doozy, it actually could've been worse.**
Then, I had finally made it to the end of my day, and was headed up to bed. I set my camera down on our desk in the kitchen, which was also consequently right next to a small vase holding a single carnation, and just enough water to spill out all over my camera, when bumped by my camera strap. *sigh* Of course.... As far as I can tell, I was able to get it dry quickly enough, and nothing seems to be out of wack. Let's just hope that holds true when I put it to the test tomorrow, so that I can once again say- IT COULD'VE BEEN WORSE!!
Thank goodness I can now succumb to my dropping eyes and awake to a new day tomorrow!
On a positive note, here's a sneak peek of today's shoot:

Isn't it fabulous?
